This is the news page for my great aunt! Check it out! She was the one who took my dad, now 83, hunting for the first time. He took a rabbit, that first trip. I can remember as a teenager, we stayed in her basement during hunting season. And dad would get up and be cooking sausage and biscuits. She would come down and say, 'Get up boy or your gonna get left!' She had a large fireplace down there and some beds and chairs! She always had a german sheppard! And one night, we had buried the deer guts down near the woods. And I was warming in front of the fire. She told the dog, 'Bingo get on your rug!' The dog always did. The rug was between her and I. Bingo had dug up the guts and eat em. Bout that time we smelled the worst fart ever! I looked at Katie, and she at me! Then she looked down at Bingo and said, 'Bingo, you've been eating them guts, and you got that boy thinking I farted!' We cried, laughing! A couple days later, I killed a button buck and was trying to gut and skin it! She got aggravated at the way I was doing it. And said move and pushed me out of the way! She took the ax and hammer and split the pelvic bone and had it quartered in minutes. She ran trap lines the and had hide stretchers all through the basement. She is amazing. And we are so very proud that she is still here! The whole family may have never hunted, if she wasn't! We have been blessed!

JUST THOUGHT WOULD UPDATE THIS REPORT! LAST SATURDAY THE TOWN OF RICHFIELD HAD A DISABLED AND HANDICAPPED HUNT! THE BANQUET AFTERWARDS THEY PRESENTED MY GREAT AUNT KATIE A NEW REMINGTON 12GAUGE AUTO. WE WERE GOING TO TAKE DAD, BUT HE HAS A HERNIA AND WASN'T ABLE TO GO. MY COUSIN TOOK KATIE AND THOUGH SHE DIDN'T GET A DEER. THEY DROVE AROUND RECOVERING THE ONES, OTHERS GOT, TO BE SKINNED. MY DAD'S FIRST COUSIN CALVIN BARRINGER HUNTED NEAR MORROW MNT. HE IS ALSO ONE AMAZING HUNTER AND FISHERMAN FROM OUR OLDER GENERATIONS. I THINK THERE WAS LIKE 50 DEER TAKEN AND OVER 200 PEOPLE WERE AT THE BANQUET! MAN YOU SHOULD'VE SEEN HOW QUICK THEY PROCESSED THE DEER AS THEY CAME IN!

Man, granny is one awesome chick. I loved it - definitely worth watching. I think having a passion for something like she has for hunting will keep you going a lot longer than others that reside on a couch. lol
Tell her good luck and we hope she tags a few more this year.

    great aunt Katie
They portray her as a grannie. But, actually she never had any children. But, she was like a granny to all us nephews, and grand nephews. She has over the years been in the news for this and other outdoor articles. Current issue of Wildlife in North Carolina has an article about her. My brother lives behind her and told me she went out saturday to hunt and stayed five hours. My brother told her not to over do it. Of course she didn't listen. They say she was slow moving Sunday! She is all in microfilm of The Salisbury Post if you want to look back and see more turkey and other hunting articles!
