Spent the last few days in Rockingham with a great friend I meet on this very site. I have Lost count of how many deer ( And TURKEYS!!) we seen But After a run of Bad luck this year. This young 2.5 Year old Buck played the part and gave me a 35 yard shot after following a Buck Bomb Scent Trail right to our set-up 45 minutes after first light. Don had gave me the Green light on 3 Bucks and this young Stud was Number 3 based on what he looked like on Videos but after the smoke cleared, We were both in shock at how young this Buck really was but nonetheless, I'm very proud of him and the memories that were made I will cherish forever!!! I wont write a Book because I'm starting to think nobody reads this stuff anyway but Thanks again Don for the Hunt!!!

Thanks alot everyone and Viper...I Love Deer meat but didn't even keep this one..There's a older lady that lets Don hunt her land in return for some deer meat so I told him to give her this 1 and I paid the processing fee..Figured it was a small price to pay for Dons generosity for letting me Hunt to begin with, and everyone is Happy and Don doesn't have to worry with getting Her a deer now...( Plus he has several Big Gobblers up there hanging around lol) Anyway, I have plenty of time and a few Does are more than enough for us...I don't have to kill every deer I see, I have nothing to prove to anyone and have no interest in getting involved in a contest to see who can kill the most deer... I just Love being in the woods watching the deer and Man did we ever see the deer the last few days...I started to unload my Muzzle-loader on a Big slick head this afternoon back at the house here but let them wander by. I'm not even going Sat Morning (Opener of Rifle)...I need to get some Use out of that Duck Stamp I purchased lol.

BTW,There is NO way that these are the same genes as Dons big 8 or the 9...Completely different area Miles and Miles away from each other but still Great genes in this Guy...Gonna be a Cool Euro Mount!!!!!

    Congrats GT
GT - - Congrats on a nice deer. And as we always discuss, harvesting a deer is your own choice. The big wide 150 (8 pointer) I killed last year was aged by DNR as 2.5. It goes to show IMO that NC is a sleeper State for whitetails and I am A-OK with that idea. Couldn't imagine all private land being outfitted at an outrageous cost. Again, congrats on the deer.

Side Note....had something happen to me last weekend I've never seen. Hammered a great mid 140's deer with my muzzleloader, he hit the ground, did the death kick and laid lifeless for roughly 45 seconds. I took the time to reload real fast and when I looked back to where the deer was, he was gone. Went from the highest of highs to the slumps in a matter of seconds. No Blood, No Hair, and had no idea which way he went. Searched for 7 hours the next day to no avail. Win some, lose some I guess.

PHISH...I can't ask if your Serious because Buddy I have seen this several times myself..Very Sad Feeling Bro. What bullet you shooting? My Muzzle-loader will only shoot power-belts and they pattern great BUT...They don't pass through usually? The Hide seems to stop them? My Nice 8 from last year..Shot broadside at 80 yards and I thought I had missed with a shoulder shot but he only went 30 yards or so and not 1 drop of blood!! nothing!!!! Don't give up buddy and Good Luck...Speaking of age, I'm cleaning this 1 for a euro mount and like Don and myself were thinking...Very young Buck..Look at his teeth...Still very sharp with not any visible wear.

Your story is a mirror of 1 I witnessed a few years ago from a loft in a hay barn...Muzzleloader went BOOOOM, Buck folded and never moved!!! As we were gathering our stuff to climb down..he gets to his feet and wobbles away before my friend could re-load...No Blood, Hair or anything and this Buck laid they for at least 2 minutes motionless...Crazy stuff!

Hey Thanks RussDog and Widegide!!! Means alot Guys and Best of Luck to you guys the rest of the season and when I seen this Bucks teeth, I started thinking about what he could have been with the little drop and all but Like I Stated, I'll honor his life with a Euro mount and a conversation piece as to what great genes can do for a Whitetail Buck...I'm very pleased with him and What a relief it was after the way my season has gone to see him fall within site lol...Good Luck Guys Stay Safe!!!
