Howdy, Yesterday Opening of Blackpowder Central n.c I Was Sitting 30ft High in My Climber On Gameland. Wind Was Blowing around 20 mph Or So. Around 9:40am I Just Happend To Turn My Head to my Left And See 2 Does Walking By Me At 40 Yards. (I Never Heard Them Coming) I Rasied My Muzzleloader And Had The CrossHairs On The Back of One Does By This Time i ranged Them At 60 Yards. Long Story Short, I Didnt Shoot, I Knew I Could Make A Clean Shot, But IT Was A Spine Shot, i I Didnt Feel Right About Shooting A Deer In The Spine. Butner-fall in (Durham, Wake, And Granville Counties) Recevie Some Major Hunting Pressure. I Heard 3 Shots Fired In And Around Me, But When I Let The 2 Does Walk I Didnt Hear A Single Shot, so I Feel Good That i may see the does Again. Did I Make The Right Call not to Shoot? Love To Hear What ya'll Think!! Thanks Goodluck And Stay Safe.

Being on Game Land I would have took the spine shot because I shot a Deer on gameland once and it ran about 90 yards across the power-line and BOOOOM..I tracked Blood right to the Guys Boots but he was convinced that it was His deer so...He looked very happy so I congratulated him and went back to my stand lol

Thanks Gt, I Understand Exactly What Mean, That Is My Biggest Worry on Gameland, that the deer will run and someone else will Claim It. Ive Never Had That Happen To Me Yet, (Knock On Wood) lol But it Could Happen. I Would Never do Someone Like That. If Someone shot a Deer and It Died Near Me, i would climb Down out of tree and offer to help drag the deer for them. Thats how it should be, even though it's fearice compotion among gameland hunters, 15 Hunters going after one deer, where all there to enjoy the sport and look after one another and not steal deer and treestands from one other, but it's not always like that. What ever comes my way i will be in the tree, and if someone takes my deer, then it was Gods Plan, and i'll wait for the next deer.

I would definitely say great call. I've been in almost that same position a couple yrs ago. All part of the thrill of a hunt.

    Well
I'm not in the same boat having never hunted game lands. I've thought about it a few times but having heard other folks stories it doesn't sound like an enviroment I'm comfortable taking my son to.
I personally wouldn't take the spine shot just because I wouldn't want to mess up the backstraps. But that's just my .02 and like I said I'm not in the same situation as you.
    Good luck!

I would have taken the shot. Good chance that it would have gotten vitals also. That way it would not have suffered. But, it is always best to go with your gut.
