Decided to give it a try Friday afternoon. So I hit the stand around 3:15. The wind was howling and it felt like I was on a roller coaster. At 3:30 had 2 does come out and mess around the corn and taters for for about 20 mins then they went back in the woods. Sat there watching the squirrels gathering there nuts for the winter and about 5 or so had 4 more deer show up withing 15 yards, 2 big does and 2 fawns. Watched them wonder around and then they went down to the feeder to eat. They walked off with about 30 mins of light left. Then within 5 mins of them walking off they walked back across the lane to the other side and in. Then they done it again 5 mins later. So I made my mind up I was going to take a doe since I haven't got anything yet this year if they came back out. With about 10 or 15 mins of shooting time left I was looking at the side the went on and I saw this big body deer, I was thinking to my self that can't be a doe with a body that size. So I got the scope on him and it looked like a good deer. I put the cross hairs behind the shoulder and squeezed the trigger and he hit the dirt. When I got down and got to where he was I noticed how tall his rack was and that he was the same one I seen at the end of last year but he put some mass and length on this year. I figured he was around 4 to 5 years old if you go by the teeth. They where wore down to about nothing. He is probably my 4th biggest buck I have ever taken. Wish he would have been a little wider but he looked like that last year also with his tines about touching in the front. He has some character thats for sure. He is a 8 pointer and he probably weighed close to 180 or so he had been eating good thats for sure. Sorry bout the book but just figured I had a decent story with the hunt. Now time to work on some does, would like to get another good buck but Im usually lucky to get one a season..lol. Going to try to post a pic from my phone if I can figure it out.

    Love them JoCo Bucks
I had to reload the smokepole to finish my buck off and I must say, I might have shot your buck twice even if the 1st shot killed him. Just kidding but that is a fine deer. I love to see a brute taken in Johnston County since it is home and populating with people so fast. Timber always cut, tobacco and cotton grown, land cleared, houses built. Congrats!

Arevels, yea i know all about the sub divisons going up. I haven't had any move in my way yet but the guy that owns the land on both sides of our path didn't plant anything this year so i dunno whats going on with that. He usually plants soy beans.

DCBH, they been getting some goodsizes ones after the sorry summer, but if not this year, I will be down there some next year so if you see me just yell earlyriser at me ...lol i will know its you or someone off this site.

Once again thanks everyone for the comments, found a nice scape line today around the edge of a pine thicket, figers crossed maybe get the second one...

    Brogden
I also hunt down around brogden (cox mill) and 1 of our boys killed a 8 ptr over 200 lbs. the 1st week in muzzleloader season. He was fighting a BIG 6 for 15 min. and he had to shoot while they fought because they wouldn't turn each other loose. There are some giants down there and I hear the 6 is a wall hanger. Must be to fight a buck like that. Maybe I will get to see him through the scope! Good luck on the scrape lines. Best bet in October, for sure.
