jager, Like yourself when I first moved here from West Va I knew NO ONE!! I started asking around and was told about Uwharrie and let me tell ya...The First day I hunted there I went in real early....About 3:30!! because I had been warned to Get off the beaten path for success...Well after My looong Hike I felt Great about my chances at any deer...At Pink light...I smell a cigarette and I don't Smoke!! Then I hear a cough from another area...then another Flashlight? I tell ya...At daylight, I felt like I was sitting in a Pumpkin Patch...I was surrounded by Orange Blood thirst Hunters!!! I was Only 19 then but I said then That if I made it out alive then they could have it!!! It sounded like Pearl harbor the First 2/3 hours of light and I seen NOT 1 DEER!!!! Dead or alive!!! Maybe it was a bad area but Not sure..I do know that there's some NICE Bucks in that Forrest and Great Turkey hunting if your in shape...That Year was the start of my Bow Hunting...A elderly Women I worked with HATED Guns but told me that If I wanted to Hunt with a Bow Then that was Fine...A $50 PSE from the Trading Post and that's how Archery began for me lol

    whoa!
Sounds dangerous, Im not used to hunting public land but Im not paying 500$ or more for a lease . Ive been spoiled in the past and you could knock on some doors and get to hunt. I guess those days are gone LOL

    Yep
Yeah jager being from West Va, You could hunt anywhere!! See a Nice Buck cross the Road, he was fair game to anyone. When I moved here and started hearing about Clubs and leases I was instantly thinking MONSTER deer lol I was wrong!!! Deer hunting among other things is going to be a deep pocket sport in the near future...It seems to get worse every year.

Its about my favorite pic . Its a great perspective on size. The rafter hes on is 10 ft from the floor he dressed at 235 lbs. 3.5 year old. 10 pt. scored 132'. Shot him at 25 yrds fighting with the 8 pt. I had been hunting. I opted for him instead. My best bow kill to date...jager..

    Neck shot
Yes I did dis- head shots with A22cal. But in the adirondack mtns, where I come from. Neck shots are the norm. with a suitable projectile...Youll likely break the spine windpipe or pretty much kill the deer fast and he wont go nowhere. which is a plus in mtn. terrain...jager

    game land
uwarrie can be good to hunt but you do have to spend your time getting to know the area .I would suggest going on a sunday and scout.Sandhills game land is good also and its not much father than uwarrie. They have two muzzleloader seasons this year ,but either sex is by permit only.Hope this helps
