  • WOW!!!! Rage 2 blade chisel point

I normally donít say much about products that I use but I shoot a Mathews Z7 70 pound draw with spot hog hunter sights QAD rest. I have always shot muzzy 125 grain broad heads until this year. I have shot 8 deer with them and lost only 1 of them. They have broken bone and keep going. They were truly bad to the bone. I canít say anything but good about muzzy. I changed my arrows to carbon express maximum hunters and I did not have time to tune my bow with them. So I went and bought the 2 blade rage chisel tip and they shot just like my field points so that was a plus. So Saturday I went hunting and this doe stepped out at 42 yards. I had a perfect broad side shot. There was a smaller deer in front of her and I had to shoot over her. I hit her a little further back than I was aiming about 3 inches to tell you the truth. When I released the arrow she was looking away and never knew the arrow was coming. I watched the arrow disappear in her side and then she run off. I let her lay for nearly 2 hour before looking for her. She went about 35 or 40 yards at the most. When I looked at the shot I realized I hit her a little back then I flipped her over and saw the exit hole and was amazed at the damage that rage did. I could not believe she went down as fast as she did with the shot I made on her. I will continue to shoot a rage broad head and donít plan on switching back to muzzy. Rage is truly a awesome broad head. The Rage Company is truly advertising actual results not myths. I can say I may lose a deer shot with a rage but it will take a really bad shot to do so.

I have been second guessing the G5 Montec that I shoot but they have done me well. I like the fact that the rage shoot like field tips and I think the failures that happen with rage are because of low poundage bows. I also shoot 70 pounds+ draw. I also hear those chisel tips make them grap the hide better......I might have to give them a try!

Rage makes a 2 blade broadhead just for lower poundage bows. Its what my wife shot hers with. She made a less than perfect shot and the deer ran about 300 yards.

    I’m sticking with Rage.
I was shooting the practice chisel tip heads and the chisel point is so sharp that I ended up cutting the fletching off of my arrow. I would have never imagined that that would happen. I went with the chisel point because I thought it would perform better on bone than the ones with the blade on the point. Thatís what I liked about the muzzy was that it will brake bone. Had a friend shoot a hog the other night with a rage out of a ground blind had a complete pass through on 2 with 1 shot and then the arrow was lodged in a tree. They did that with a 60 pound Matthews heli M. Had another friend shoot a 60 pound boar with a 70 pound Matthews heli M compete pass through dropped hog in his tracks hog was laying there kicking and he put another 1 in it and it broke the leg passed to the hart. It broke a blade off but they make replacement blades for them. When I shot muzzy I had to replace blades all the time.

They do leave an awesome hole....I use to use the regular 2 blade then I switched to the Red Head Gaotr wghich is pretty much the same thing without the oring....plus it is $10 cheaper lol....The only problem I ever had with the Rage was the blades occasionally coming open in my quiver..Other than that they worked great. They also say no orings but if you don't have that oring on your blades will not stay closed....I do like the option of the chisel tip as well....

I like the G5 montec for the most part think they have a good design. But they do not have replacement blades.I also always check that the rage is lo9cked in the O ring when i nock my arrows. I was warned that they may come open in the quiver.

Well the thing I like about the Montec is it is a solid one piece design. Doesn't get much tougher than that...Especially when you talk bone and penetration. As far as replacement blades all you need with the Montec is a sharpener for the blades. I just love the idea of the concept of a mechanical head that opens at the time of impact. We all know that we are not always going to make that perfect shot...I would rather have a 2' plus whole than a 1 1/8' or 1' on that not so perfect shot.

Yeah I don't know.....G5 have been 99% effective with 3 lost deer in 3 years.....fortunately none were bucks.

When I shot 'Sky Scraper'....see profile...lol! It was last light and he was standing behind a pine with only his head a front shoulder showing. I drilled him in the top of the shoulder @ 22 yards, which is a tough area on a deer to penetrate and the G5 busted through the shoulder mussels, cut the top of his heart off, and passed through the far side shoulder and still hit the ground. The blood trail was non existent until the last 10 yards when his drain plug fell out. Thanks to Creek07.....he knew his land and where Sky probably went.....100 yards up hill to the drop off gulley.

I still have that arrow and as I told Creek....I shot a doe with that arrow a week before and the broadhead was resharpened and still is sharp even though one of the blades is slightly bent from that shoulder shot.

It's a trophy arrow hanging in my office and written on it is, 'Sky Scraper...12 point buck....10-8-2010 TEN OAKS'. I even noticed a worn ink mark on the fletch '#1' because it was the best flying arrow out of 12. Love it when things come together!

One thing I will never get tired of saying.....Thank You Creek!

    Can't belive you said that.
So viper are you saying you lost only 1% of the 300 deer you have shot in 3 years. That is one heck of an average if you ask me. Iím going to change from my NAPs to the G% monoteck with deer call built in like you shoot. Do they cost any more than the regular one without the deer call urine scrape maker device. Sorry just saying LOL!!!!You are a deer god. Thanks for gracing you with your unending knowledge. You are the reason the bone collector crew shoots G5.

Hello buckn hunter...I would say Welcome to the site but I see that you have been around since February but anyway...I myself think you misunderstood Vipers Comment...He didn't actually come out and say he has Killed 100 Deer a year the last 3 years and I agree His Comment after I looked at it again does sound like he is saying that in the Last 3 years he is batting 2.97 out of 300 (Maybe he is lol) but the sarcasm toward his hunting ability was uncalled for in my opinion. Maybe you know Viper? Maybe you Don't? But we are all here to voice opinions and I think that it can be done in a way without bashing another user and in my opinion, That's what your Comment toward Viper was...Now, Speaking of opinions and since you have been around the site since Feb. I'm sure you know that 99% of the users don't like me or my opinions as well BUT I assure you my friend that I 100% don't Care so lets Play Nice and Good Luck to ya!!

That's ok GT, but thanks for standing up for the site and members but, you know and everyone else here knows occasionally people like Buckn Hunter will confuse this site for the Jerry Springer show.

Actually, Bucknhunter this conversation was about sharing field experience with broadheads. I don't know if my lack of mathmatical skills set you off or the big horns in the picture but, either way welcome to the site and like GT said let's play nice.
