For Flatheads...Live bait!! For Others...Anything that stinks lol
I use live Blue-Gill (Bream) about hand size or white perch when I can Find them..They stay Frisky alot longer...I don't do much good on Warmouth Bream either...Fresh frisky Bait is the Key with Flatheads where I Fish...I scrape the side a little just enough to get some scent out, Hook him in the Back shallow and Toss'em out...Notice I said Toss because as you know Blue-Gill are fairly easy to catch around the bank and when you sling them into deeper water that gets colder as they go Deeper, The Fish go into Shock and Die!! before they even hit the bottom...And if you really sling'em wayyy Out, they are dead before they Hit the water because they are not used to flying and therefore once again, the shock kills them and Dead Bait isn't frisky lol...You might not believe this but I rarely ever Catfish in water deeper than 6 Foot unless I'm using pool Noodles for Channel cats...The Big Fish prowl at night looking for a free easy meal and you will be surprised at how shallow they will be...Also silence is Golden for Big Fish...Even a loud conversation will send sound waves down your line and spook the Cats...I even took all 10 of my 6500s apart and bent the clicker so it wouldn't be so loud because alot of times they (The Big Cats) will sense that resistance and drop the bait...Look me up on High Rock sometime..I know some Good spots. I got carried away there but yeah...Live hand-size Bluegill for the Big ones and nothing under 4 inches.
