This birds center feather is longer than all the rest. This year has been very hard with spring coming so early. Most of the birds have done there thing and are back together. This bird came by the blind with two others at 4:30.

    daylight hours
despite what most people believe it is not the warmth and green that makes the turkeys mate ....it is the amount of daylight hours that makes them start mating. it could be 35 degrees out and if there are long days the birds will breed. however theweather will effect the way they respond and their movement.

    Breeding
Your correct Mac, The days getting longer triggers peak breeding but the crazy weather will shut them down..I have seen it!!! Sure they breed but cold, rain and wind all will play a part in how successful the poult hatch turns out...Limbhanger texted me this AM and ask me what I thought this weather would do to the hens nesting and I told him that they are fine...The hens will sit night and day if they need to...Mother Nature has it covered...It's warmer in that Tall Grass and dead-falls than what we might think!!! The reports I'm getting shows the Mid-Day hunt to be the ticket!!!
