  • Lake Keowee Bass Fishing Report

The South Carolina BASS Federation anglers on Lake Keowee reported seeing a lot of bass, but catching them was a different story.

The bass that were caught last weekend were shallow and deep. The bass were off the shallow points and shoals at first light. Jerkbaits in chrome colors, white spinnerbaits, and flukes were the predominate lures for these early morning fish.

As the morning warms up, the bass are heading to shallow water back in the coves and pockets. The females are acting like they are going on the bed with beds being found in 2 to 7 feet of water.

Sinkos, shaky head, and Texas rigs in green pumpkin and watermelon seed are good baits for bass that are holding under the shallow water docks. Drop shot, shaky head and Texas rig baits are good for the bass that are cruising around the deeper docks. Some schooling activity is going on, but it is scattered.

There fish are out there because you can see them, but getting them to hit is a different story.
