Here's Mine and Limb-hanger is correct to the best to my knowledge because bearded hens often (Not Always) produce double and triple bearded gobblers from every clutch of eggs. Plus...Bearded Hens often aren't the biggest in a flock, they're just the most aggressive. So much so that they frequently race to turkey hen decoys and start smacking them around. Short beards, short spurs and light body weight is the reason most 'jakes' (immature gobblers) are spared from the gun. Bearded hens have their own negatives as well. They (Bearded Hens) generally have 3- to 9-inch wispy beards. (Mine had 8 1/4) And they don't usually have spurs. Biologically, it makes sense to spare any hen in the spring. I shot mine a few years ago on a Foggy Morning and felt really Bad after I tossed her 12lb lifeless body over my shoulder...All my friends tried to make me feel better by telling me what a true Trophy I had and It was like killing a B&C Buck but I had Turkey hunted in the fall as a Kid in West Va. but even back then...Shooting a Hen Turkey has never really been my Game..Sure they ate the Same (GREAT!!)LOL. So is there justification for intentionally shooting a bearded hen? To each their Own but I say... Just because something is legal doesn't necessarily make it right...I'm Happy to say that I seen a bearded hen at least 3 to 4 different Times last Spring but She Got a free Pass from me....Good Luck Guys
