Well last night Me and my Dad struck out on my first archery hog hunt...We had the trail cam pics to tell us when to be there.....We had the stands setup...I had my bow on lock....Now all we needed was the pig to come in. As luck would have it...He came in right on cue. He was about 15 yards for what seemed like forever but He was facing head on. Finally a moth or something spooked him and made him turn. I thought HE was quartering too me a little but I felt confident that I could still make a good shot on him. So I drew back and settled the pin and let the arrow fly. It hit its mark and the pig took off. Well I thought it hit its mark. We decided to wait for a few minutes before climbing down. About 2 minutes after the shot the strangest thing happened. In the general direction of where I last heard the pig, a pack of coyotes all of a sudden lit up the quiet night air. Almost as if the pig stumbled on them. Man, it was so loud!!! We could here the pig squealing and then it got quiet and we never heard them again. After climbing down and examining the arrow I found out that I didn't get much penetration. I had shot him in the shoulder. So I still thought it was a good hit but I new there would likely be be no blood being part of the arrow was in his shoulder. After we regrouped and got some more firepower we went back to look and we found zero sign to follow. All I had was my broke off arrow...Well we just so happened to have a camera a spot so we pulled the card. To my surprise the pig was not quartering towards me, He was actually perfectly quartering away. So with that in mind I don't know how good a shot it was since I shot him in the shoulder. Anyway, long story short, We didn't recover the pig and I am sure the coyotes will have their bellies full for the next day or so...Either way we had a awesome hunt!! Can't wait to go back for redemption....

Sounds like fun my man - sorry you didn't get your hog but at least you contributed to the 'circle of life'. :)

    Dang!
I was wondering how it went....I didn't hear from you so I thinking you didn't see one. That sucks but that's how I look at it when one gets away....at least nature will eat well.

Fish and Game is currently discussing the issue of allowing lights to be use at night on Coyote! Count me in!
