  • Drought Conditions Good for Fishing

Drought conditions aren't good for the environment, and we've had our share of them in South Carolina in the past decade. But they can be good for fishing, especially for pond fishing from shore.

The low water levels concentrate the fish into smaller areas, making it a sure bet to increase the chances of catching a fish.

Joie McCutchen recently did some pond fishing and caught some largemouth bass and bluegills. Walking the banks of a friend's pond in Sumter County, she caught one bass on a buzzbait, a white Booyah with a red hook, then caught several more bass and bluegill on the Mepps Aglia.

Kevin Davis of Black's Camp on Lake Moultrie says the low water level also makes for good fishing on the Santee-Cooper Lakes, though it is more dangerous for boaters.
