Well guys as some of you know I recently took a trip to South Dakota to do some pheasant hunting. This was the first time hunting pheasant and it was a blast. For all you bird hunters, you should try this at least once, it's like nothing else. The first evening after the plane ride and an hour and half car ride to White Lake, SD we arrived at the big 6 room hotel. Oh by the way population of White Lake - 400!! Yea the 1/4 mile stretch of town was huge. So we went to the camp and they said they had no pheasant, no deer, no nothing. After walking a little we flushed about 40 pheasant and saw some nice deer on the property. This kind of hunting is an 'in your face' situation. While walking in CRP about waist high the birds would flush out just feet from you. The weather was cold and very windy. Sustained wind was about 30 mph with gust to 50. The land out there was very flat and had a significant shortage of trees. They also had the wind farms littering the horizon. (However it didn't seem to harm the wildlife, coming from the article from Andy Crawford) The hunting was challenging and fun. We hunted in a group of about 7 friends and family for 3 days. In the three days we killed roughly 40 something pheasant. All in all it was a good time with great friends and cold drinks. It was good to get away for a while and see a different part of the wonderful country we live in.
