  • DNR Chief Stepping Down

SCDNR's chief since 2003 said yesterday that he plans to retire at the end of this year.

John Frampton has worked for the agency for over 37 years, starting his career as a field biologist in Union County.

Frampton has not said what he plans to do next, other than spend more time with his family and do some other things. Of his decision, he said 'After 37 1/2 years, it's time.'

Frampton has overseen the DNR during a difficult time. In the past 4 years, the agencies budget has shrunk from $32 million to $14 million. Such cuts have led to cutting programs and staff.
