    270 or 300
I just bought a .270 for hunting deer in NC. I have have had a .300 win mag for the past 5years and it is alot of gun for deer. With the .300 if you put hair in the scope, you will find the deer. If you get a .300 and shoot 150-180 grain corelok bullets, there is not much that walks this earth you cant kill!!!!

    270WSM
I shoot the 270 WSM (short mag). with a 130 grains an elk won't walk away and it shoots much flatter than the 30.06,308, and 300. Ballistics are 3275 fps out the barrel with a max 2.6 inch rise at 150 yards and dead on at 300 yards. 2097 ft. pounds of impact at 300 yards. It would be like throwing a VW bettle at the deer. You did say for deer hunting didn't you....lol!

    .300 vs .270
I have always shot a 30-06, great for around here, basicly same a .270. I recently got a .300 and it should handle anything if you plan on only having one rifle. If you just want to hunt around here a .270 is great and get something bigger later if your after elk, moose or big bear later in life. You can get the reduced loads for the .300 if you want for hunting in NC. So,,,,, how many guns do you want in the safe?

I have used a TC 300 Win Mag with 180 grain bullet the last 8 years. I have zero complaints on recoil or damage to deer. I have shot a 270 before and have no complaints about that either. Both of them will kill a deer with a good shot. When I purchased this gun I knew I wanted something that could be used for Whitetails right on up to your larger big game animals. That is why I chose the 300. I only have one rifle I hunt with so it's got to be one I can use for just about anything.

I would go with the 270. I have owned a 300 and it will indeed kill deer. In fact, the impact to the chest turns organs to mush. The recoil from the gun is hard on your sholder and if it is a bolt it could also tear up your finger. i have a scar on my right index finger still today from hunting with a 300 win mag several years ago. The bolt would tear into my finger. In my opinion, too much gun for deer.

    Go with the .270
I just bought a Browning Abolt in .270 and I love it shots great and very accurate. 1 inch high at 100 yards and dead on at 200 and 5 inches low at 300yards. I was using a 7mm magnum which is as close to a 300 that you can get. 270 ammo is cheaper.
The good thing about a .270 is there are so many choices and weights in bullets to choose from. Its a great all around choice, I have a buddy that went elk hunting and the guides actually recomended him to bring a 270 with a bullet around 150gr.
