I started hunting with my dad when I was 8 years old. This past August my father was diagnosed with cancer and hasn't been able to hunt but once or twice all year. But since August we have looked at deer on the computer from our Moultrie
game camera. Everytime I would check my camera, I would carry the card to his house and we would look through the pictures. We began looking at the different bucks and trying to figure out the most mature bucks when we came across a picture of a big wide 8. We only had a few distant pictures and really couldn't tell how big it was. On Monday October 10, I checked the camera after about 10 days of leaving it alone, and we had pictures of him from the previous 4 days both morning and night. We looked closely to the times and directions in which he was moving and had a good idea of what was going on. The only problem was that our stand was in the wrong place. We had to walk through where the deer are coming from before we ever got to the stand. We decided it was best to come in from the other side and sit on the ground. On Tuesday October 11, it had rained non stop all day. I called my dad and said that the wind was right and maybe the weather would push him out a little early. That evening after sitting on the ground in the rain for 2 hours, the big 8 stepped out at 40 yds at 7:15. I would have never been able to kill the deer without having seen the deer and learned a little about him from the Moultrie game camera. And a little good luck. The only thing that would have made this buck better was if my dad was sitting right beside me! The deer was 202 pounds, 19 3/4 in wide, 11 1/2in G2s, 6in brows, and green scored at 148 in.
