With the help of trail cameras I was able to watch this buck over several weeks and work out his pattern. He came in on time to within 20 yards and dropped less than 50 yards from my stand. This is my personal best and to take him with a bow is icing on the cake!

I am usually more of a meat hunter, but after seeing this deer on camera I decided to hold back on the all out slaughter of whitetails and set my sights a little higher. Glad it happened on opening day! I don't think I could have watched many more deer walk. There were 4 other bucks with this guy and I saw 3 does, 2 fawns, 5 jakes and 1 hen. It was a great opener. Hot though, I sweated all afternoon and had two deer get downwind of me and spook.

    Icing on the cake!
Wow....man you said it best....taking him with the bow is icing on the cake. I had the opportunity last year to feel what your feeling due to the Grace of God and Creek07 and Gobblintom the other moderators on this site. Sky Scraper was my personal best with the bow but, your buck I think trumps him. Great Job.

Be sure to enter him in the Bag-O-bucks contest under the contest tab at the top of the page!

I am new to all of this forum stuff so you guys will have to bear with me. I think I entered him into the bag-a-buck contest but when my dad tries to vote for him it says there are no photos available at this time. Can some of you guys familiar to the site check it out and see if I have messed something up? Thanks for everything.

    Again forgive the double postings.

Got in the stand @ 3pm. hot and sweaty. Watched deer and turkey all afternoon. Had two old does wind me two seperate times. Thought for sure I was not going to have a good afternoon. About 7:15 caught movement to my left and saw that ivory flash of antler I was looking for. Even though I couldn't tell how big the deer was I immediately began breathing hard and my heart starting beating that hectic rhythm that we all love. I had seen this deer with others on camera so that made the anticipation that much worse. The first buck to come up was a nice 8 that any other time would have hit the ground, then a nice 7? in velvet and two other small guys. They messed around my salt for a minute or two but I couldn't take my eyes off of the deer that was hanging back. He was the last to come in but when he did he came trotting and scattered the others. I got lucky and didn't have to wait for a shot opportunity long. The other 8 walked by this guy and he followed from my right to left. When he passed behind a big oak I tried to draw back. Failed on first attempt due to my frazzled mental condition at the time. The second attempt was a success. Made a good clean heart/lung pass through that piled him up about 50 yard from my stand.

    Mounting
Hey congrats again, are you going to take him somewhere locally to get mounted? And also, are you a gama warden? Saw where you work for NC wildlife resources? Just wondering?

    Not a game warden
Honestly, I wouldn't have that job. It takes a special person to be a law enforcemnet officer of any kind.

I have not measured him yet. Probably will look at him a little closer this weekend. He was over 19 in. inside. I hope to fill my other buck tag this week so I can spend the rest of the season wacking nanny deer!
