I have shot bucks the first part of bow season still in full velvet. I wonder if maybe the more mature bucks shed first? Just a thought. Good luck this season.

Few years ago...I had 4 Bucks come in opening evening..3 in Full velvet (Took 1 home that evening) and 1 was about completely cleaned off...On a side Note...I seen Branches shaking about 100 yards across the field the way they came in...Was they rubbing? Who's to say.

    Post from the past!
I went back to my post from the past because I remembered this subject about velvet! Below is the old report!
    Buck Fever
Folks, I saw something I've never seen before and maybe I'm just seeing things. I tracked a ten pointer all last year but he seemed to be nocturnal. I started the corn pile about three weeks ago even though in the back of my head I'm thinking this buck knows corn doesn't grow in the woods. Well today I checked the pile and just about all the corn was gone...yes their were signs of squirrels. But what shocked me was there's a bush by the pile that was all scared up like the buck was beating the bush and one drop of blood. Blood...could this be from the shedding of his velvet? The blood was still real wet like it had only been there a couple of hours if not one hour. I figured the shed would already be over in the southeast.
