Man, You are lucky to have such a place to hunt that you can watch'em grow...Every time I let a buck walk that has potential, i see it posted at the local Bait&Tackle Store on the braggin Board LOL...Pees me off but they don't have names on them.

If it was'nt for being born in the sticks where time warner cable just laughed at you if you asked when would get cable then I wouldnt have a place to hunt .. Have tried to find leases and willing to even pay the peoples taxes every year , no one will let you anymore... Then they pissed off when the deer eat the garden or totals their car, my statment is ' I told you so lol'

Trust me Buddy, I know exactly what your talking about with Tree-Huggers. Being from West V where you can hunt just about anywhere you choose...I was lost when I moved to NC but Thankfully through the help of Co-workers/Friends and 2 Ex-Wives LOL I have a few decent places to Hunt and they are free and I treat the property like its my own land and Help the land-owners with whatever they ask and it works out good like that. I have been hunting a few of the places for over 10 years and all they ask is to stop in once in a while and say Hello...Plus they really don't like me bringing anyone with me but my Daughter...There Older Folks but I learned to listen to thier rules because I lost 1 good place letting a friend hunt because he didn't have another place and he used the bathroom in the corner of thier yard and they seen him LOL...of all things!!!

    Trophy Cam XLT
Hey Rockhunt, Received my NEW Trophy Cam XLT today in the mail and this 1 has a few added bells&whistles again like the new FIELD SCAN Mode and it has SOUND with the Video Clips. I was skeptical about opening it or just selling it as New because i had a fear it would be a dud also but i went with my gut feeling and opened it...Installed new Batteries and.............IT WORKS!!! lol. I set it up in the house and tried out the Picture and Video (With&Without sound) and it works great (So Far) Noticed some New detailed instructions as well in the Manual but one line said to make sure your Unit is closed tightly because ants are attracted to the circuit Board but with the New sound added feature it looks to me like ants can just get through the speaker Holes?...Time Will Tell I guess....Checked my Other 1 today and just Does and Crows....Wonder where those 5 young bucks went i had been seeing?

Well rock and gt i know if we could find a lease me and stillhunter would be interested but gt would u be willing? If so what about va to far for you to drive?I'm just looking for someone to help buy things like mineral and feed to help split cost cause i'm not scared to spend some money on something i love this much.Just spent 180$ on trophy rocks the other day and came all out of my pocket. So we seem to be a pretty good bunch of guys so i would be all for finding a lease.Wolud love to have that comradery which is all that is missing from my hunting.

Donion, That sounds Great. I wouldn't mind getting in on a lease in another state like Va. Guys don't take this the wrong way but i have wasted a bunch of money hunting in NC for quality Deer and it has never paid off. Unless you have your own land or been in a club for 'YEARS'...In my opinion its just plain luck if you kill a Nice Buck in NC...I know most guys that when they decide that there getting out of a club or gonna loose a lease...They start killing everything!!! And that makes it very hard on the next group...Hope you understand what i'm trying to say here....It takes a GROUP effort and everyone has to have thier heart in it or it doesn't work at all. Nice Deer are what we all love to hunt but we are not on TV....Its alot of work!!!

    Farm

How serious do you donion and gt think the guy in the classifieds is about having 40-350 acre tracts for lease in Halifax, Henry, Caswell, etc... if so I'd be willing to get in with the 3 of you for sure, I know all but GT personally anyways... And well GT you seem aight with me lol.. But if anyone knows of the guy or wants to contact him that'd be worth looking into and see what we could afford together. The number goes to a pallet company in Reidsville I looked it up last night when stillhunter text it to me. Let me know what you guys think, I just cant afford anything else on my own right now I'd need help to lease something.. And I know Stillhunter feels the same way .

I agree with Rock...His land must be prime!!!I went in with some guys a few years ago on some 'top of the line' Land for $10 a acre and Yeah it looked good but the previous leasers must have got pissed and killed EVERYTHING before they left...I only took 1 doe from it and she was malnourished looking...I could have got in a Club in Illinois this year for $600 but its too far the way I work and the amount of time i would have got to hunt it.

I ahve been looking land to lease seriously this yr and have yet to find anything under about 14/acre. I did call that guy but the chatham county land is leased and the va land is 2 hrs or more from raleigh. I would be willing to bet he wants 15/acre for the va land. If any of you hear of anything between raleigh and yall let me know cause i would be in.

I hear ya on the lease.....gas plus bait in this economy.......tough to find a good deal. I'll be huntin close to the house. Don't expect any trophies from me this year, but I will be filling the freezer!

    Hey guys
Not very many midnight feedings Viper. Twins have been sleeping through the night since about 3 1/2 mos. They are wonderful. Thanks for asking. And guys The cheapest land I have found is 200 acres in southern Warren County for 10/Acre. Anyone interested in going in on it?

    Dogs
Hey jtr...Don't they run Dogs in Warren Co? Seems like i went there once several years ago with some co-Workers...Now Don't get me wrong and i might catch some heat over saying this but...I felt sorry for those deer that day...It was a True'If its Brown-It's Down Day' and i told myself on the way home that if i EVER had to let a Dog run a deer to me in order to kill one then i would just quit Deer hunting...Some people are going to say thats its no worse than shooting them over bait but 'To each thier own'. It's just not for me...Anyway what i was getting at was...Do you think this would be a spot we could manage with Dog Hunters around?...Glad to hear the Family's is doing well By the Way.
    Reply
    Hey Gobblintom
I don't know how well we could manage it until I see what is surrounding it. All I know is it is the cheapest per acre I have found. I will give the guy a call and see what I can find out. I think it could be ok for about 4 people. I know last yr I got my deer in a dog hunting county on a 50 acre family farm. One scored 130 and the other scored 145. That 50 acre farm only has about 4 acres of woodland. Good to here from you by the way.

You know tho, a lease on Private Land in a dog hunting county could be a way to really catch a big deer, if you leased 200 acres strictly managed it and could get a contract for say 5-10yrs promised lease, you'd have the santuary for dominant deer if you can keep the dog hunters off it. Now on the other hand may be many heated confrontations first few years with dogs and dog hunters. But not a confrontation I'm willing to back down from either, I and no offense to any one on here cannot stand dog hunters. If you're not good enough to kill a deer on you're own, you should'nt be allowed to hunt.

    GUYS
Wow Rockhunt, You put it out there and thats the way i feel also but anyway Yeah...A long term lease is what its gonna take but i have heard of so many people having trouble with Dog Hunters and thier Dogs but I will add that 'It's Not the Dogs fault' they are just being Dogs...If I was paying hard earned money to lease land only to have confrontations with Dog Hunters most of the season then I just Don't know...I have a Redneck Side and Hate to show it but i know all this talk about 'We are just trying to round up our dogs' just doesn't sit well with me. It's Legal but alot of the rules get bent it seems....Like i said last season that i over heard some guys talking about how the deer would get in the creek with nothing but thier nostrils sticking up to hide from the Dogs and it flew all over me!!! Takes alot to P me off but that did when i heard that!!!

jtr...130 & 145 are 2 great deer for NC in my opinion!!!

Yea I agree, I just don't have much nice to say about dog Hunters, they are trespassers and poachers for the most part... Some truly are just trying to get their dogs back and thats cool with me, and if they feel they need firearm protection while doing it carry a pistol no bigger than a 9mm, not 5 guys with shotguns probably loaded with buck shot... Pick you're guns back up when you get back to you're own property... And I missed where the 140inch deer was posted or mentioned but dude 140+ inches is awesome in NC

    Thangs Is Gonna Change!
Would yall quit pickin on them Dawgs.....they don't stank...just the people makin'em run their cute little butts off all day....and who gets to parade their kill around Walmart parking lot....the guys sittin in the truck all day out there on the road....rewarding them 20 or 30 dawgs that did the work with the cheapest crap they can buy! Don't get me started!
This too....shall come to pass. But all you guys out there should research the history of dog hunting. It is pretty dang cool how it came to be....but the way it's portrayed now is a shame. There are some great hunters and men out there that dog hunt but there are just as many young guys that are lazy and just don't get what it's about. All they understand is 4x4, glasspack pipes. cb radios and tieing a spike rack on their dog box because the rest of the buck they tossed on the side of the road. I'm not spouting...I live it in Sampson county! Might even start helping the Game Wardens...they are understaffed and over worked! Bottom line....Right is Right! There are unethical hunters on both sides of the fence....the ones that stand out are the one parked on the sides of the roads! Not always fair....but you don't see still hunters!

    Pick'en him up monday
The 145 buck is coming home on monday. I'll be sure to post a pick of the mount. That make 2 I got that are 140 or better. Now i'm looking a 150. I dog hunted until just a few yrs ago but I gave it up. Got tired of shooting small bucks. Not many great bucks taken in front of dogs unless they're laying in a very small patch of woods. Dog hunting is not what it used to be. Even a lot of the old timers will tell you that. Most of the younger generation just wants to kill, kill, kill, and tear up land. I got to where I enjoy just watching. I let several 120 class deer walk last yr. Can't wait to check the cameras sat. And I'm gonna call about that Warren County land. I'll share more about it if it seems worth it.

There you go JTR....you get it! I'm really not an ass. Dog hunting isn't what it used to be....and like you said...even the old timers can see that! Society are the ones that determine our hunting heritage and future. Everyone on this site....if you are not taking a young person hunting or an adult whom has never hunted....then YOU are not helping to presevre this heritage. PETA punks are the ones throwing us to the fire because of what they see parked on the side of the road....trucks and guns! Stop this and you stop them!

Yeah I can see where you would miss that also but Fellas The guys i went with were freaking me out and I'm from West V LOL...They all had CB Radios and the stuff that they put them trucks through that day...Not to mention the risk of a DUI/DWI or worse yet Killing someone after the hunt on thier way home...All to kill some Yearling deer...They acted like they had a Mission LOL Like you guys, I don't have to Take a deer to have a Great Hunt...That's why i started carrying a Video Camera with me...To some IT might be about the Kill but not me...I get my biggest Thrill just hanging out after shooting hours at our Local hang-out and seeing a Kid or a Older Gentleman bring a Deer in.

It would be nice if you could still trust ppl around you're hunting land, and thats coming from a 28 yr old ... I been hunting since I was 12, used to you didnt have to worry about ppl like you do now. Now you go hunting and all you hear is gun shots Lol, People talk about take we need new hunters to help keep hunting... well we do need new hunters but we need ethical hunters that actually enjoy it when the shoot a doe as much as an 8 point. The problem is these ppl who are couch hunters who never miss a show on the outdoor channel and all they see are 160+inch deer so they want that to show off and let every doe in the woods walk by, thats not hunting ! First deer I ever shot was a doe, last deer I shot last year was a doe!

    NO DOES ON TV?
Man I here ya...Thats the way i feel Exactly...These outdoor shows on TV Now really P me off because they send a Message that isn't TRUE in my opinion. You got these Guys shooting Big Trophy deer and going on with the BS about how hard they worked for it and at the end of the show is info where you can contact the SAME Guy that just killed the Big Trophy...Thats not how Hunting is. I think i posted a article last year about Richard Childress, My Buddy works up there and a Few years ago he Killed (OK ,Shot) a MONSTER!!!!.Well i went up to see it hanging in the Garage area being showed off and the story went something like...He Flipped through a Book and picked 'HIS' deer out and then the Deer was Drugged and Put close to his set-up and he was placed on stand to wait and Blah Blah Blah...Anyway something like 20K later he has 'HIS' deer...I felt like punchung someone in the Throat after i left there....I have always said and i still believe this....IT'S NOT HARD TO KILL A TROPHY BUCK...BUT...YOU GOT TO BE WHERE SOME TROPHY BUCKS ARE!!!!!

Any Deer I am Bless with I consider a Trophy Myself, It's Just the way i was raised and I'm 41 LOL...When i close the Deal on a Big Ol Doe with my Bow...A Record Book Buck is the last thing on my mind...Back-straps are the First LOL...People have just had it beat into thier heads...GET A BUCK!! GET A BUCK!!! and regardless of what the T-Shirts,Bunper Stickers,Hats ETC Say...Size DON'T Matter!!! and it's always the same sad song...'If I hadn't shot him someone else would have' Thats a Big Problem with our deer here in NC. Don't get me wrong...I would Love to shoot a Nice Buck to admire on my wall BUT I don't have to in order to Love the sport of Hunting. I have heard people say ' Man i was sitting there watching 15 Does and then...Here he came.. and I Took him' Whatta ya Think Nice 4 Pointer or what....Uh Uh Uh WHAT? Would be my answer LOL...15 Does and you shoot a 4 Pointer?....WHY? OH I know...It's a Buck and Your a Trophy Hunter......PLEASE!!!

My thing is, with these pro hunters I grew up watching and actually respected like Stan Potts, who consistantly goes after 200 inch bucks... Well what I didnt realize until googling the last place I saw him hunt at and kill a 190inch buck was that these places are high fenced... I looked at the web site and it says something like 160-180 class $9,000, 190-200 class $12,000, 200+inches $15,000, thats not what should be on TV showing ppl how to hunt... Biggest deer I've ever seen in person was dead already when I was like 13 and it's still the current NC Muzzleloader State Record it was shot on the property next to my families... And that deer was absolutly huge to me then and still is now Lol ....

He was my idol when i started Bow Hunting and we all know what happened to him...Sure if you got the money, You can get any deer you want...I have a Older VHS Video with Dale Earnhardt hunting and Big Buck after Big Buck just walked right by him until he finally said 'I like that 1 and shot' and He was on the Ground and His Guide looked as if he was fixin to go to church..Polo Shirt and...NO CAMO....LOL....TV hunting is a Joke!!! I don't even like the Bone Collector Crap myself but a guy at work has his truck decked all out and he honestly believes that Waddell could go sit his stand and kill a P&Y....Silly Huh?

I like me some Waddel....I believe he's the real thing and has his heart in the right place.....is he spoiled....well hell ya....when you got money you can hunt any place you want. My taxidermist cousin mounts deer from all over the country and Canada....he once said if you went to these places and shot a big deer ....you would never be happy in NC again. Big Bucks sell DVDs
Aww man, why do I all of a sudden feel bad for watching the hunting channel. But for real not all shows are filmed behind high fence, most of them are filmed on well managed land in 'big buck' states, yes they have someone scouting for them and putting them in the right stand... but its still hunting. Look at every other tv show, they put unbelievable sexy girls on tv and in movies, and I still think my wife is hot so whats the harm in showing them shot big bucks? Well I'm off to watch some North American Hunter I have recorded.
