  • Beaufort Tarpon-from a Kayak!

Brad Knight has fished the Beaufort area in search of tarpon for the past five years but had yet to land one until this past weekend. Knight caught his elusive prey and he did it from his Hobie kayak.

Knight said the fight lasted 2 hours and that the tarpon took to the air 7 times. He landed the beast with a Shimano 6500 Baitrunner spinning reel spooled with 65-pound Power Pro and an 80-pound leader. A 10/0 Owner SSW circle hook completed his tackle and sealed the deal on the tarpon, which measured 6 1/2 feet long.

Knight went on to say that two powerboats that regularly fish for tarpon came over to watch the show, and they estimated the fish to weigh between 110 and 120-pounds.

Knight helped the tarpon resuscitate, then released it for future anglers to have the same opportunity he had.
