  • Queen Triggerfish state-record tied

Twelve-year old Hunter Woodberry of Lake City went bottom fishing out of Georgetown on June 15 and reeled in a state-record Queen Triggerish tie. Fishing on the First Choice boat, a 29-foot Fountain, with his father Tony Woodbury the youth angler caught the 9-pound and 7-ounce Queen Trigger in 175-feet of water.

The current record for Queen Triggerfish is Marc Heiden's 9-pound and 5-once queen triggerfish from January 2006.

SCDNR official rules state that 'A fish weighing less than fifty pounds must exceed the old record by four ounces to be regarded as a new record. A weight difference of less than four ounces will result in a tie.'

Amy Dukes with SCDNR has certified Woodbury's catch.
