Fourteen-year old angler Hunter Sutcliff of Orangeburg won the Inaugural EWT Thirsty Fish Shark Tournament with a giant hammerhead shark that weighed 470-pounds!! The beast of the sea was 10-feet 4-inches in length and took three hours to land. Fishing out of a 27-foot Island Runner boat owned by Captain Scott Hiott of Walterboro and crewed by Freddy Avant of Walterboro, the monster shark hit a chunk of barracuda on a Mustad 14-ought circle hook at 8 a.m. in 70-feet of water. The shark grabbed the bait and proceeded to dump half of the Penn reel spooled with 80-pound Cajun line before the boat could give chase, and after a 1.5-mile pursuit the shark tired and was reeled in. The first place paycheck for the crew is $2050.
