  • Weekend Bow Hunting

Well the lunar cycle is coming up on the full moon so the major movement is going to be around mid-day and midnight this week-end with minor times being early morning and late afternoon. Get deep in the woods near bedding areas around noon if you want success.
I am heading to the mountains with the bow. I'll be happy with a couple of fat does. Good luck everyone. Be safe and have fun!

Got approval for all next week off. Plan on carrying the 300 in the morning and the bow in the pm. I've been using Field and Stream lunar charts and they have been accurate. Just curious to what yours say if you don't mind looking. Good luck with the bow this weekend. I still want my first with the bow and hopefully I can do it next week.

    Lunar Charts
The full moon and the new moon are the biggest peaks of any month. The 22nd is the full moon so the major times that day will be running 12 noon to 2 pm and 12 midnight to 2 am. The minor times will be morning and afternoon, (moon rise and moon set). I always find that the 3rd or 4th day after the full moon are the best days. Good luck. You picked a good week to be off and in the woods. The pre rut in my oppinion is in full swing. Good luck get yourswelf a wall hanger and if nothing else enjoy the time and knock a doe down.

Thanks Viper!! Hope to put the wallhanger down with the 300 and a doe with the bow I guess that's why they call it hunting. Did you send Sky Scraper off to the taxidermist?

BBgun Sky Scraper is at the taxidermist and if you check out the post 'Sky Scraper Falls' you can see in the comments the mount they are going to do.
Lunar Chartsfor Donion...I use the lunar charts because they help narrow the times I should be hunting. There all kinds a varible that can effect the times, weather, pressure, but lunar charts work.

The major times for today are....and write this down:9:46am thru 11:46am and 10:14pm thru 12:14pm. There are two major time periods everyday. Each day the times advance by 44 minutes. add 44 minutes to these times and those will be the times for tomorrow.
I am in Sampson county, these times are for this area. The times in Anson county are 7 minutes later than here. So depending on what part of the state you are hunting in, the times will be slightly different. That's why I say invest in a Garmin Etrex Gps. Mine is a Venture HC. It tells me lunar times for the place I'm at. That's also why Field&Stream may not be exact for your area.

This should get you close. Hope I've helped.

P.S. Full moon is the 22nd. The major move in the afternoon on the 25th is1:42 to 3:42 Minor window that morning is 7:53 to 8:53.

Its been slow so far. Went opening morning of gun season, didnt see anything. Went this past Wednesday afternoon and seen some does. It was a new area so I decided to just wait to see what may come out on the first hunt there. I think in about 2 weeks this will be a good place to see a good buck. I may have to stop by Vipers and see if he can give me some of his luck. That was a great deer he took with you and Creek. Good luck this week.

When I was leaving a job site off HWY 115 look to my right into a field in there was two does in a field around 11-12 yesterday. LOL. My big day is next weekend. MUZZLE LOADER.. Good luck—off to church

Hey, Creek For the past couple of years I have hunted out in Duplin Co. I did hunt in Sampson Co. most of my life but I changed jobs and work in Duplin but stay in Harnett co. But Sampson Or Duplin to me most bucks start chasing around the second week of Nov. Good luck this week.

    I'm Back!
Just got back from the mountians about 30 minutes ago. I see you fellas have met Ebare. For everyone reading this Ebare is responsible for me getting into Bow Hunting. My cousin Kingfish is the one that got me posting on NCS. The two of them created a monster....roflmao!
No both are great guys that anyone would love to meet.
REPORT: The full moon and wind as usual had things messed up a little in Wilkesboro. I finally followed my own advise and got close to a bedding area this morning. 4 doe caught me off guard and ended up right beside and under me at 8am.
I heard something behind me and looked to the left and realized they were coming in behind me from the right but by then they were 15 feet away eye level to the right on the steep mountain. I froze and couldn't even move for 45 minutes as I counted the differnt deer from the sounds they were making while still looking over the left side of the tree. When 3 of them were in the road below me I turned my head and the 4th blew me. She was still to my left and I didn't realize it. The other three froze....I stood up slowly with one right under me. The two others in the road started up the hill to to the right and the one under be to the left. The one to the left made the mistake of stopping to see what the others saw and I smoked her at 35 yards. I had higher hopes of more deer but at least the in-laws have some meat and that was the purpose of the trip.

I hope I can get out this week; now that I'm back in Gunville....and knock one down for me.!

Hope everyone had a great week-end!

    Good Hunt
Hey Viper, Sounds like you had a good hunt. Two more weeks and the bucks should start showing up. This weather needs to break or it may take to Thanksgiving to get things going. Stay safe and good luck Brother. Let me know if you have any jerky you need to throw away. lol

    Trickle Rut
They say we are going to have a trickle rut (spread out). I'm starting to believe them because I've seen posative activity since October the 3rd on trail cam. Deer are scarce. I think the big boys have them rounded up now.
Jerky......I need a deer first but, that is the next thing on my butchering list. I'll keep you posted. Or better yet....bring me a doe! lol!

    Weather and the Rut
Ebare...The cooler weather has little to No effect on the Rut...Its triggered by the shorter days. The reason more deer are up and moving is because they are more comfortable being cooler and they know cold weather is coming so they are building up fat for the winter. Does can still be breed in warmer weather but they are more people in the woods seeing more deer moving and alot of people think that the Cold weather triggers the rut...But its all in shorter days and the Hunters moon. I have seen bucks chaseing does in 70+ degree weather here in NC... There is a Great acticle in this months issue of North American Whitetail that sums up the myths about the Rut pretty well....Check it out and Good Luck
