The English Setters went on point for the inaugural quail hunt of the 2010 campaign with guide Paul Kiker leading the way. A mid-morning thunderstorm gave the upland hunters pause, but when it was all said and done, the dogs scented the birds well, the hunters shot and collected some quail, and the proverbial rust was knocked off of everyone's routine. Great Hunt!

There's not much better than watching the dogs work and downing a few quail. And the bonus is the fine tablefare those little birds make. Yum!

A side note to the quail hunt is that we were out in the middle of the woods when a mid-morning thunderstorm rumbled into the Piedmont, and we got a goo soaking. A front was passing through and we evidently got clipped by the edge of it. We took an hour break to dry out and to let the quail dry their feathers, then we went right back to the birds and had some fine wingshooting.
