Guys i have a question, At 1 of my stand locations i have been smelling something dead on my way in and out. Thinking i might have got a snake/baby rabbit etc. with the bush-hog a few weeks ago i didn't give it much thought, but today i was checking my trail camera and the smell bought knocked me off my Foreman, so i played Bloodhound and found a Small doe/button buck tucked back into some brush about 20 yards from the pond edge, First thing that came to mind was CWD because a case was already found on the Virginia/NC line but confirmed in Virginia so I'm puzzled as to what happened to it? Its about 150 yards from a road, i guess its possible that it got hit and ran that far and died. I didn't spend much time around it because the smell would gag a maggot off a gut wagon and i didn't see any holes but come to think of it i smelled it the middle of last week when season wasn't in yet.

    Dead Deer Found by Pond
If the deer had actually been in the pond, I would have a real good guess: ehd... epizootic hemmorhagic disease, also known as blue tongue. It's been a couple of years since we had an outbreak. It's carried by midges, and it's more apt to show up in the fall when we have a warm, wet summer. The deer gets infected and runs a fever, so many of them go to water to cool off and die there. Finding a dead deer in the water is usually ehd. But haven't heard of any other cases, although September/October is usually when it shows up. Once it cools off, the insects die and quit carrying the disease.
