There is always LOTS of anticipation leading up to opening day of dove season. Football and barbecue awaits the hunters that go afield in search of their legal limit of doves - which is now 15. I can report that two gunners on either side of me were able to take their limits, and the Richland County dove field had plenty of doves! About 25 guns probably harvested 200 birds, and it's almost assured that the next hunt will have birds too because the hunt was stopped at 6 p.m. allowing the birds some time to come in and feed. Florida fishing guide Tony Bozzella was in attendance and said it best, 'I was ready to put the fishing rods up for a little bit, and go ahead and squeeze the trigger some.' Only afternoon hunting is allowed the first three days of the season and Labor Day dove shoots are the next traditional shooting day for dove hunters - ENJOY!
