Monster buck had two huge drop tines

Austin Taylor of Rockingham County, N.C. dropped a 16-point monster buck on Sept. 14, 2022 while hunting in an oak flat from a Millennium M-50 Hang-On deer stand. The deer had two 7-inch drop tines on it’s massive rack.

Taylor arrowed the buck with a Hoyt RX-7 Ultra bow at about 6:46 p.m. It was his first time seeing the deer in the flesh.

“That was my first day seeing the deer in person. But I had multiple trail cam photos from July through the day of the hunt,” he said.

On the day of the hunt, Taylor’s trail camera alerted him with a photo of the deer showing up at 10:30 a.m.

“I knew if I got off work and to the stand that evening, that I’d have a pretty good chance of seeing the deer,” he said.

And that’s exactly what happened.

“I rushed home from work to get in the stand before 4:30. And I didn’t see a single deer until 6:40, when a small doe showed up to my right. Then as soon as I turned to look at the Big&J bait pile, the buck was standing there at 30 yards,” he said.

The monster buck made three more steps, then Taylor came to full draw.

“He looked dead at me. I let the arrow fly and heard the sound we all love to hear. Like I just let the air out of him. I was tore up. I had just arrowed the biggest buck of my life,” he said.
