TAG Boats offering plush, high performance fishing craft

As anglers head to the offshore fishing grounds this year, they’ll see a new player in the boating market. TAG Boats, based in Charleston, S.C. is set to shake up the offshore world with their world-class high-performance fishing catamarans.

TAG is currently producing 36-foot catamarans that have all the comforts and features important to today’s anglers. Their 43-footer is in the design concept phase.

David Johnson, Jr., a 43-year-old entrepreneur who grew up in South Carolina’s lowcountry, has spent over 25 years fishing offshore in a variety of boats ranging from 21-footers to 60+ footers, and everything in between. In that time, he learned that catamarans make the most stable fishing platforms.

Johnson has always enjoyed working with his hands, and decided to combine that with his love of fishing and watercraft by starting his own boat company.

“I wanted the challenge of building a seaworthy vessel that provides the most stable platform for offshore anglers. I spent countless hours listening to friends and fellow fishermen. And after many days and nights thinking, head-scratching, and dreaming, I realized there’s a better way to create a hard core fishing platform that still has all the plush, luxurious amenities to give anglers the total package,” Johnson said.

TAG Boats currently produces a 36-foot fishing catamaran. A 43-footer is in the design phase.

Aside from being an avid angler and boat builder, Johnson is also a father. The brand name TAG is made up of the first letter of each of his sons’ names, Ty, Austin, and Garret.
