He also won the Top Senior Angler award
Eddie Briley of Atlantic Beach won $10,000 for reeling in the top king mackerel during the third Annual Atlantic Beach King Mackerel Saltwater Slam. Briley’s mackerel weighed 65.78 pounds, and he caught it during the second week of the tournament, which ran from Oct. 5 to Oct. 26.
Briley pocketed an additional $300 for winning the top Senior Angler award. Briley was fishing with his partner aboard the Taylor Made on Oct. 13 when he caught the big fish. The crew had three mackerel hooked at the same time, including the 65.78 pounder. A bigger fish was on one of the other rods, so this fish’s rod was placed in a rod holder as the crew wrestled the other fish.
But when the other fish got away, Briley quickly realized this was a trophy as well. They fought it in, and hauled it back to Chasin’ Tails Outdoors Bait & Tackle in Atlantic City. Chasin’ Tails was the weigh-in site for the tournament. The fish took the top spot by a wide margin.
Joshua Woodard of Princeton captained the Flat Broke Fishing Team to second place. They won $5000 for their 49.86-pound fish, which they also caught on Oct. 13.
Katie Hardee of Ayden, fishing aboard the Lil Half-N-Half, took third place for her 38.94-pound mackerel. She pocketed $2000 for the fish, which she caught on Oct. 19.
John Lewis took fourth place on board the Second Chance, winning $1000 for his 38.44-pound fish. Fifth-place angler Wayne Hardee caught a 38.41-pounder to win $500.
Tournament payed through 10th place
Henry Tillett finished sixth for his 36.95-pound fish caught from Windy Conditions. Kevin Knox fishing aboard Angler’s Envy took seventh with his 36.52 pounder. Colby Bond was eighth with the 35.73-pound mackerel he hauled to the deck of The Whaler. Everett Cameron, fishing on the EverReady boated a 35.5-pound fish to take ninth place. Victor Tucker took the 10th spot with the 35.11-pounder he caught aboard the Job Site. Each of these anglers took home $250.
Top Lady Angler for the tournament was Debbie Priddy. She won $300 for the 38.44-pounder she reeled in aboard the Second Chance.
The Junior Angler award winner was Joshua Tucker, who boated the 35.11-pound king on the Job Site. He won $300.

The tournament is held yearly to raise money for the Atlantic Beach Fire Dept. All proceeds go to helping them purchase life-saving equipment.
