Since the reauthorization of the Magnuson Stevens Act in 2006, fishing regulations have changed at a rate never before seen, and nowhere more than in the Snapper/Grouper complex.

Most species you catch while jigging the bottom fall under the Snapper/Grouper complex, regulated by the South Atlantic Fish Management Council. It is of the utmost importance that an angler can identify exactly what he or she is catching and know what the limits are at any given time, or a major problem could arise back at the dock.

One solution to this problem comes in electronic form. SA FISH REGULATIONS is a mobile application available for both iPhone and Android platforms.  The free app has an extensive identification guide and also has both the recreational and commercial size and creel limits for all species.

It is important that anglers download the latest updates before they leave the dock. The data downloaded through the “Settings” menu is provided by SAFMC, so it is the most-current data available.

Even with regulations constantly changing, most enforcement officials don’t accept ignorance as a valid excuse for breaking regulations.
