Laura Kluge’s Onslow County New Year’s buck

New Year's buck

New Year’s buck was a blessing for Bear Creek hunter

On the last day of deer hunting season, and the first day of the new year, Laura Kluge killed an Onslow County, N.C. buck that brought her a lot of happiness. Having lost her father-in-law recently, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to go hunting. But her husband convinced her to make an evening sit on the last day of the season.

“We recently lost my father-in-law in December. So I took some time in the stand to talk to him. I asked if he would send me a big buck. I said I would do my best to take it,” said Kluge, of Bear Creek.

And Kluge got her wish.

“About 4:30, a beautiful buck stepped into an opening, and the rest is history,” she said.

Her dad helped her drag the buck out of the woods, and she headed home for a celebration of the harvest.

“My dad helped me drag him out, and after a lot of hugs and high fives, we loaded him up. My whole family was waiting when we got him home. This is why I deer hunt — these moments!,” she said.
