Grant Mathis’ Fairfield County buck

Nov. 9, 2020: I woke up late that morning and had about a 45-minute drive to my club in Great Falls, S.C. I got to my stand about 20 minutes before daylight. Walking to my stand, I ran a few deer off my corn pile. After they where gone, I climbed up fast as I could.

I sat for about 10 minutes and had a doe to my left I was watching. As soon as I turned back around at first light, I could see his horns in the bushes beside my corn pile. I went ahead and got my gun ready. As soon as his front shoulder cleared the bushes into my shooting lane I double lunged him with my savage 110 .300 Win Mag.

I thought I missed at first, but soon as I got down I could tell I didn’t with all the blood everywhere. I walked to where I thought I had heard him crash and he was curled up in a ball in a bush. I drug him to my shooting lane and brought my truck down and loaded him up. Killed in Fairfield County.
