Ella Grace Healon’s Sumter County 10-point buck

10-point buck

Luck, wasps, and a late change of plans helped youth huntress kill 10-point backyard buck

Twelve-year-old Ella Grace Healon killed this 10-point buck on Oct. 21, 2020 in Sumter County, S.C.. The story of how she ended up with the chance to kill this deer was purely luck. After hunting that morning with no luck, her and her dad were planning on going to the hunting club in Manning, S.C.

At the last minute, Ella Grace changed her mind, and they decided to stay home and hunt the land behind the house. As her dad walked her to a stand, they jumped a big buck that they had been seeing in late-night photos on the game cam.

Ella Grace got in a stand at the back of the property. She sat for a few minutes and realized that there were wasps all in the stand and decided to move to another stand. Once she got into that stand she discovered more wasp! She moved to a third stand that she had actually sat that morning.

Not 20 minutes after moving to that stand, several does came out then left. Ella Grace was on her phone texting her dad when she looked up and saw him. She texted her dad that the “big one” was here. She aimed her .243 Savage and shot. It was definitely her most exciting and memorable hunt to date!
