Rockingham County bowhunter kills monster 8 point buck

Christmas came early for Rockingham County’s RJ Seiler when he arrowed a 225-pound, 140-inch buck that he had nicknamed “Christmas” while tracking it on trail cameras on his hunting lease earlier this year. He called the deer that because he knew getting a shot at this buck would be like opening a big present on Christmas morning, and he did just that on Sept. 10.

Madison Parker of Florence, S.C. began sitting in the deer stand with her dad when she was just a baby, so it was fitting that the two were sitting together on Sept. 6 when the 19-year-old killed the biggest deer of her life, an 11-point buck that weighed 195 pounds and had a massive rack that has been rough scored at 140 inches.

Matt Atkinson popped an 11-pointer on Sept. 8 after just recently joining a hunting club near his Aiken County home. And what a buck it was! Atkinson’s buck boasted several 11-inch tines with bases over six inches in circumference, and is expected to score upwards of 140 inches.

On the first day of North Carolina’s archery season, Dylan Martin of Stoneville killed a possible new state record buck with his Ravin R10 crossbow. During the last few minutes of daylight, Martin arrowed a 171 5/8-inch non-typical giant at only 16 yards from his stand.

South Carolina’s youth day gave young deer hunters the opportunity to hit the woods a few days before the official season kicked in on Aug.15 — and 12-year-old Nate Humphrey of Hanahan, SC took full advantage. On Aug. 11, seated beside his dad Michael, the youth hunter pulled the trigger on a full-velvet 8-point in Orangeburg County, SC that weighed in at 176 pounds.
