Blake Hodge will be a rising ninth grader at Buford High School this year. His summer education included schooling the 2010 Team Real Duck two-man World Duck Calling Contest on July 24 in Texas. Hodge teamed up with Hobo duck call founder Kent Cullum to win the two-man title outright, adding to the 2010 North Carolina goose-calling contest title he earned in February.

Blake gets plenty of experience in the field working for his father Daryl's guide service, and said it's a natural progression to participating in calling competitions.

"I like calling ducks and these contests are lots of fun," Hodges said.

The two-man world duck calling contest is a 'live duck' sound event, and Arkansas' Cullum is a past three-time champion of the singles division. Three 1 ½-minute rounds separated the competitors after flawless performances.

No 'call off' was necessary and the winner's received a trophy and plaque.

Despite being young, Hodge is a seasoned competitor, having won the South Carolina Junior state duck calling contest in 2008 and 2009. He is a member of the pro staff out of Rock Hill., and is on the Drake Junior Competition Calling Team.

While in Texas, Hodge also tried his luck at the Snow Goose calling contest and took third place in the Junior Division. He also finished fourth in the Junior Division of the Speckle Belly goose calling contest.
