Winchester has recalled all of their XPR rifles due to a potential safety issue, and has issued a strong safety notice.

According to Winchester’s recall notice, “XPR rifles have the potential to fire an unintended round when the safety switch is manipulated. During continuous product testing, Winchester found that moving the safety switch on the XPR rifle may cause movement in the trigger system that could result in unintended firing of certain XPR rifles.”

The company’s XPR rifle is made in .270, .30/06, .300 Win. Mag., and .338 Win. Mag. All of these models fall under the recall, and Winchester will replace the trigger mechanisms in them for free. Winchester suggests anyone who owns one of these rifles to return them as soon as possible to have this issue corrected.

Winchester also has this warning for folks who own any XPR rifle:“WARNING: Do not load or shoot any XPR rifle until it has been returned to our service center and received a retrofit. Failure to follow this warning may result in a risk of harm, including serious personal injury or death to you and others,” said the gunmaker.
