The Cape Fear River branch of the Quality Deer Management Association will hold hunter-education event this weekend designed to give novice deer hunters a leg up on next season.

Students will receive instruction to give them hunting knowledge on a variety of topics, including: deer biologist, deer herd and habitat management, scouting techniques, tree stand choice and placement, call and scent use, using different weapons, tracking, shot placement and basic deer processing. Interactive workshops will be included, along with field work, a gun-safety class, work on the range and a mentored, simulated deer hunt. Students will have a wild-game dinner on Saturday night.
