The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center is offering 11 free fishing workshops for people of all ages and skill levels throughout the month of May. Online registration is required for the workshops, which are open on a first-come, first-served basis.
May 5 – Bear Goes Fishing Adventure (Cub Scouts) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Cub Scouts Den leaders should contact Tom Carpenter at 910-868-5003 ext. 11 to preregister.
May 8 – Introduction to Pier Fishing from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Open to ages 15 and older.
May 11 – Introduction to Kayak Fishing (Level II) from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Participation in Introduction to Kayak Fishing (Level I) is required.
May 12 – Beginning Fly-tying Course from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Open to ages 12 and older.
May 16 – Soft Plastics Lure Making Class from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Open to ages eight and older.
May 18 – Family Fishing Workshop from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Open to families with children ages seven and older.
May 19 – Marine Electronic Communication and Safety Seminar from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Open to ages 12 and older.
May 19 – Game and Outdoor Cooking Workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Open to ages 16 and older.
May 22 and May 23 – Boater’s Basic Weather and Forecasting Seminar from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Open to ages 12 and older.
May 24 – Fly-tying Forum from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Open to ages 10 and older.
May 25 – Guided Kayak Fishing Experience from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Open to ages 16 and older. Participation in Introduction to Kayak Fishing Level I and II is required.
The John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center is located at 7489 Raeford Road in Fayetteville, across from Lake Rim. Commission staff at the Pechmann Center conducts fishing workshops, events and clinics throughout the year. Most programs are free and open to the public.
