Summerton, SC is one of those sleepy little towns that you might miss if you blink while driving through. But it’s also known as the Duck Hunting Capital of the Palmetto State, and Clarendon County and the town of Summerton’s populations swell, at least temporarily, during waterfowl season.
To celebrate its role in the lives of outdoorsmen, the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce will be holding Duckfest 2017 on Oct. 14. This is the event’s second year. Duck calling contests, a fishing tournament, a sporting clays tournament, a concert, a cookoff, a parade, and other entertainment are all a part of the festival.
The Jr. Meat Division duck calling contest is open to ages 16 and under, who get two, 90-second rounds of calling while competing for over $750 in cash and prizes, including a Yeti cooler, duck calls, and other products useful to waterfowl hunters.
The Open Division duck calling contest gives callers a chance to win over $1350 in cash and prizes, including a Remington 870 Super Mag shotgun, a Yeti cooler, and other prizes.
The Open Main Street duck calling division also features over $1350 in cash and prizes.
The Featherhorn Young Guns youth shooting team is holding a 12-station, 100-round sporting clays competition at Duckfest. The Duck Cup will be held at Featherhorn Farm in Pinewood. The team competition will be made up of teams of three shooters. Registration is $300 per team, and the top three teams in the Adult and Youth divisions will win over $3000 in cash and prizes.
A bass fishing tournament is also a part of Duckfest 2017. The Berkeley Outdoors Fall Open Bass Tournament will be held out of Summerton’s John C. Land III Sports Fishing Facility. The tournament holds a $100 entry fee, and 1st place is $5000.
Duckfest 2017 t-shirts will be on sale throughout the festival, and they can also be purchased now at Summerton Drugs, Summerton Town Hall, Bank of Clarendon in Manning, and the Clarendon Chamber of Commerce. You can also email email@example.com to purchase a shirt that will be mailed to you.
