The S.C. Department of Natural Resources has two youth fishing rodeos and three family fishing clinics scheduled around the state for June.
Rodeos are opportunities for youths ages 6 through 15 to fish when accompanied by a non-fishing adult. An Horry County rodeo is scheduled for June 6 from 9 a.m. until noon at Carolina Forest in Horry County, and a Marlboro County rodeo is scheduled for Jun e 6 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Bennettsville.
Preregistration is preferred at www.dnr.sc.gov/aquaticed/rodeos or 803-737-8483, but it will be available on site at both events between 15 to 30 minutes before starting time. Bring your own tackle; bait will be provided at some rodeos.
Family Fishing Clinics are introductory classes for fishing, designed to introduce the basics of fishing to young and old or those who need a refresher. Skills taught will be tying knots, rigging rods and reels and casting, and everyone in attendance will get a chance to fish. Clinics are scheduled on June 20 from 1-4 p.m. at Sun City Grand Parents Park in Fort Mill and June 27 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Lexington Wildlife Chapter.
