South Carolina fishermen dominated both halves of an IFA Redfish doubleheader this past weekend in Charleston, with Glenn Finley and Dodd Wood of Belton winning the IFA Redfish Tour’s Atlantic Division event on Saturday and David Jaskiewicz, of Wando winning the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour event the next day.
Finley and Wood weighed in a limit of two redfish that weighed 9.24 pounds to win a fully rigged boat valued at $25,995 and $2,415 in cash. Their fish weighed 5.02 and 4.22 pounds.
“We struggled all week to find slot fish. On Thursday and Friday we found two different spots that held some slot fish,” said Finley. “They didn’t have many, but we knew they were very healthy. We were blessed with two of the better ones.” David Rupert and Addison Rupert of Mt. Pleasant brought 8.86 pounds to the scales to take home the $2,892. Tom Player and Andy Nelms of Mt. Pleasant took third with 8.21.
Jaskiewicz won the kayak event with 47.44 inches for one redfish and one speckled trout. He won $2,300. His redfish measured 31.38 inches and his trout 16.06.
Justin Carter of Charleston was second with 47.25 inches: a 26.75-inch redfish and 20.5-inch speckled trout. He won $1,270. Brad Knight of Belton took home $500 in third-place money for 44.5 inches, including a 29.5-inch redfish and a 15-inch speck.
