The Upstate will once again play host to 150 pro bass fishermen s and 150 co-anglers when the Walmart FLW Tour visits Lake Hartwell March 6-9. Daily takeoffs will take place at Clemson Marina in Seneca at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 7:30 on Sunday. Weigh-ins will be at Clemson Marina at 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and at the Walmart in Seneca at 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Pros will be battling it out for a first-place prize of $125,000 in cash and prizes, while co-anglers will be trying for a $25,000 first prize.
The FLW Tour visited Lake Hartwell in 2011, with Jason Christie of Park Hill, Okla., winning with the water up, and in 2012 when Brent Ehrler of Redlands, Calif., won with 20-pound catches on the final two days.
South Carolina will be represented by 10 pros: Barton Aiken from Greenville, Casey Ashley from Donalds, Brandon Cobb from Greenwood, Anthony Gagliardi from Prosperity, Nick Gainey from Charleston, Chris Heath from North Augusta, Andy Montgomery from Blacksburg, Jason Quinn from Rock Hill, Jayme Rampey from Liberty and Jason Williamson from Wagner.
Brett Hite from Phoenix leads the FLW season point standings after winning the season’s first event on Florida’s Lake Okeechobee in early February.
Pro Day will be held at local Walmarts from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Fans can meet FLW pros, get autographs and photos, learn fishing tips and techniques, and win a FLW fishing jersey. On Saturday and Sunday, the FLW Expo will be held adjacent to the Walmart parking lot. The event begins at noon.
Coinciding with the FLW Tour event will be the FLW College Fishing Championship on Lake Keowee March 6-8. Teams representing 25 colleges will be fishing out of South Cove County Park in Seneca.
Thursday and Friday weigh-ins will be held at South Cove Park at 3 p.m., with the final weigh in on Saturday scheduled for the Walmart in Seneca.
